Finalist for Washington State Book Award!
Because I don’t understand how the timelines of awards work, I thought I was officially out of the running for any awards at this point, so this news about Judas Goat being a finalist for the 2024 Washington State Book Award is very surprising.
Before the book came out, despite some sweet things people said here and there, I felt pretty certain it would never win anything. Intuitively/energetically, it doesn’t seem to me like the type of book that would stand out in the kind of rapid-fire breadth of reading I know that judges have to do for such things, and I made a peace with that (some of my favorite books have gone without award recognition, so good company, etc), but that didn’t stop me from hoping, of course, that Judas Goat would land on a long-list or short-list somewhere. Now it has. Yay.
Thank you, always, to everyone who supports and celebrates books. If you want a signed copy of Judas Goat, you can still order it online from Open Books: A Poem Emporium <3
Back to writing towards book two.
